Believe it or not, not everybody wakes up every morning excited to workout. This is especially true now that we’re still deep into the winter season. Getting home from work and then going to the gym as it’s getting dark sucks. It feels better to stay tucked in our nice and warm homes/beds than to expose ourselves to the cruel, cold world. Just because I’m a coach that doesn’t make me immune to those temptations of skipping the gym or my workout. Regardless of the season I get those thoughts of “Do I really want to leave now?”, “I’ll go tomorrow”, and “I need a rest day.” I battle that “Lazy Demon” everyday. I cannot tell you the amount of times I’ve wasted time contemplating whether or not I should workout. But guess what. Daylight savings begins in just a few weeks. With that coming up, Spring is right around the corner and before you know it our beloved Summer will be here.
If you find yourself stuck on whether or not you should go workout, my biggest piece of advice it to “Just lace ’em up.” The first step is to just put on those kicks. Doing that alone already puts you into your routine. Don’t even think of the WoD. Get in your car and drive to the gym. The quote goes something like “Eighty percent of success is showing up.” I don’t know how true that is but it sounds right. I know almost everyone wants to look good for the Summer. Summer bodies are forged in the heart of winter. Do not break those routines now. Winter is dark and depressing but I promise you that these are the critical months to grind through for your goals. I cannot stress enough how just showing up to the gym fills up that bucket of Gainz little by little. Don’t be one of those people who wish they had just put in the hard work during those dog days of winter.
